black-and-white-drawing-of-a-woman
Black and White Charcoal Portrait Drawing of a Woman with Swept-Up Hair - Signed

An original vintage charcoal portrait drawing of a woman by Oklahoma artist and commercial illustrator Donna Foreman Hopper, sourced directly from her estate in Norman, Oklahoma. Rendered in black and gray on softly toned paper, this expressive female portrait combines richly shaded hair with delicately modeled facial features.

The sitter turns toward the left, her dark hair arranged in swept rolls and gathered at the back. A defined brow, thoughtful gaze, and high collar lend the portrait a poised, sculptural presence. Confident charcoal passages contrast with the lightly sketched neckline and generous surrounding space, preserving the immediacy of an artist’s study. The artist's signature appears beside the collar.

Hopper majored in art at Oklahoma State University and studied under Doel Reed. Her career included illustration for Hallmark, fashion advertising artwork for TG&Y, and subsequent commercial art assignments. This estate-sourced drawing offers a personal example of her skill in portraiture and tonal shading.

The monochrome palette makes the work especially versatile for a collected interior. Pair it with a warm ivory mat and antique gilt frame above a writing desk, or choose a narrow dark wood frame for a library, bedroom, or portrait gallery wall.

Offered unframed.

Provenance:
Estate of Donna Foreman Hopper, Norman, Oklahoma.

Condition:
The sheet shows light age toning, scattered surface marks, and handling wear, including minor edge and corner wear.
