A striking vintage cast-brass starfish sculpture dating to approximately the 1970s. Modeled with five dimensional arms and remarkably lifelike raised detailing, the piece has developed a rich, naturally aged patina in layers of deep brown, warm gold and subtle verdigris.
The darker oxidation beautifully emphasizes the starfish’s tactile surface, while areas of exposed brass catch the light and give the sculpture a wonderfully timeworn character. Detailed on both sides, it may be displayed flat as a tabletop sculpture, decorative object or substantial paperweight. A small opening on the reverse may also allow it to be incorporated into a wall display with an appropriate mounting system.
Its organic form works beautifully in coastal, Mediterranean, modern organic, and Hollywood Regency interiors. Display it on a stack of art books, across a burl-wood or lacquered console, inside a glass cabinet, or as part of a collected seashell and natural-history arrangement.
Very good vintage condition with oxidation, surface variation, rubbing, and naturally developed patina consistent with age and material. The patina has been intentionally retained and not aggressively polished. One protective felt pad is present on the reverse. No maker’s mark observed.
