Hopper gives particular attention to the sitter’s features and the movement of her hair, allowing the shoulders to fade into the open paper. This piece, as well as a handful of others, was sourced from Hopper’s estate in Norman, Oklahoma. Hopper studied art at Oklahoma State University under Doel Reed and continued her education at the Kansas City Art Institute. Hopper's commercial art career included illustration for Hallmark, fashion advertising for TG&Y, and creative work for John A. Brown and The Oklahoma Publishing Company. This piece is signed with her maiden name, dating the piece to approximately the 1950s.
