A striking vintage neoclassical urn table lamp by celebrated American lighting maker Frederick Cooper of Chicago.

Grand in scale and beautifully detailed, this sculptural table lamp features a classical urn-form body finished in a softly speckled ivory tone and embellished with richly patinated brass mounts. The elegant silhouette draws inspiration from European neoclassical and Louis XVI design, with scrolling handles, foliate decoration, beaded details, and an architectural pedestal base.

The elongated urn is flanked by ornate brass handles terminating in graceful scrollwork. Classical leaf motifs, gadrooned borders, and finely cast decorative elements lend the lamp an exceptional sense of depth and refinement.

The body rests upon a substantial square plinth, creating a commanding architectural presence particularly well suited to larger interiors.

A beautiful example of Frederick Cooper’s sophisticated approach to decorative lighting, the lamp combines Old World ornamentation with the scale and drama associated with some of the finest American interiors of the mid-to-late 20th century.

Frederick Cooper founded his eponymous Chicago studio in 1923. Originally trained as an artist working in sculpture and watercolor, Cooper became fascinated by the artistic possibilities of lighting design. The company went on to become one of America’s most respected names in decorative lighting, recognized for its imaginative use of brass, ceramic, glass, wood, and other materials.

This lamp retains its original Frederick Cooper Lamps Chicago label.

With its impressive proportions and timeless classical design, the lamp would be particularly striking in a living room, library, study, entry hall, or bedroom. Its neutral ivory coloration and aged brass finish allow it to work beautifully in a wide variety of interiors, including traditional, English Country, French neoclassical, Hollywood Regency, Grandmillennial, and contemporary spaces.

A wonderfully decorative statement lamp that brings warmth, architectural interest, and Old World character to an interior.
