A striking 19th-century powder horn flask, crafted from natural ox horn and fitted with patinated brass hardware and original leather strap, embodies the rugged elegance of early American and European hunting traditions. This rugged piece was found at an estate in Oklahoma City. The piece originally held gunpowder. After acquiring it, we removed the gun powder, and it is now safe for mailing.

This antique powder horn features a beautifully curved, organic silhouette with rich tonal variation—deep espresso browns fading into translucent amber highlights—making it as sculptural as it is historical. The horn is mounted with a brass spout and valve mechanism, once used for dispensing gunpowder, and retains its original hand-cut leather strap, now aged to a soft, warm patina.

The surface shows authentic wear consistent with age, including natural pitting and oxidation, enhancing its primitive, wabi-sabi character. The top cap and fittings exhibit early hand-worked construction, suggesting a 19th-century origin, possibly American frontier or European sporting use.

Today, this piece transcends function—serving as a decorative object, conversation piece, or collector’s artifact that blends seamlessly into rustic, Western, lodge, or old-world interiors.

A rare and tactile object that captures the romance of early exploration and craftsmanship.
