A wonderfully decorative vintage two-door cabinet crafted with tortoise-finished bamboo (or burnt bamboo) and tightly woven rattan, dating approximately to the 1970s.
The cabinet features a warm honey-toned woven exterior framed by bamboo with the distinctive dark, irregular markings commonly described as tortoise bamboo, burnt bamboo, or scorched bamboo. The contrast creates the beautifully collected, layered appearance associated with vintage British Colonial, Chinoiserie, and tropical interiors.
Two paneled doors dominate the façade, each framed in bamboo and fitted with a handsome round patinated metal rosette knob. The woven panels continue around the sides of the cabinet, giving the piece an unusually finished and textural appearance from multiple angles. A projecting bamboo-trimmed base adds architectural definition while reinforcing the cabinet's substantial presence.
The variation in the bamboo is particularly appealing. Darkened sections punctuate the warm amber-colored framework, creating a rich tortoiseshell effect without overwhelming the natural character of the material. The woven panels have mellowed beautifully with age and retain the warm coloration collectors and designers seek in vintage bamboo and rattan furniture.
