Antique Ruby Red Venetian Mirror - France

A beautiful Venetian mirror in ruby red. The mirror is U-shaped, and features applied and etched pieces of mirror in various stylized shapes. Most Venetian mirrors are made in Italy, however, this one is special and was made in France. The back of the mirror boasts a small round tag with the letters "OOF" in a crest with "FRANCE" at the bottom. The edges are decorated with an etched cut to clear flora motif. In France, a common symbol of prosperity is the "sheaf of wheat". We believe that this piece is an ode to that sentiment.

The cartouche at the top has a missing piece as well as a crack in the glass. There is also oxidization and patina to the mirror throughout.

This particular piece was pulled from the attic of a home in South Kansas. (You know the kind of house. Massive Victorian with a wrap-around front porch) The unsuspecting homeowner found it behind a pile of stacked boxes as he was cleaning out the space. A fabulous find indeed!
